Run For Your Life
Hello everyone and I hope you all are having a terrific Monday!
Today’s debrief is something I am so thrilled to share.
Let’s get right into it, shall we?
So this past weekend was one of my favorite days—The New York City Marathon.
When I watched for the first time last year, I was moved beyond belief.
It is one of the most emotional and incredible things I’ve ever encountered in my life thus far.
When you’re watching 50,000 runners of all skill levels run 26.2 miles for themselves, a charity they believe in, or for a loved one—it really changes your perspective on humanity.
When I first watched the race last year, I was like “oh my gosh, I have to do this!”
But this year, this year was different.
This year really changed me.
And so for next year, I’ve officially signed up to run the 2024 New York City Marathon!
I am SO beyond excited words truly cannot describe!
There are a few ways to enter the NYC Marathon and I decided to go the fundraising route and I am running with the Team for Kids charity.
Ever since I was in high school, I’ve always had a passion for volunteering, fundraising, and being apart of a great cause. Anything from fundraising for the Kentucky YMCA to fundraising for UK’s DanceBlue to now fundraising for the New York City Marathon Team for Kids charity—it makes me so happy to know that I can help assist in a small way for those working towards something positive and life-changing.
Team for Kids is an incredible organization that goes directly towards Rising New York Road Runner’s youth program and events platform that helps develop movement skills in kids through a mix of running and fitness activities.
I chose to run with Team for Kids because I believe that, especially in the digital age we live in, it is crucial that children have resources to be engaged in physical activity to better their health and well-being. If schools and organizations invest in children’s learning by obtaining laptops, iPads, and other tech—it is just as important to invest in physical and mental resources.
And in order to run 26.2 miles for this wonderful organization, I need to fundraise $3,000 for Team for Kids. I am honored to be apart of this organization and truly any contribution would push me one more step closer to my goal.
I am so blessed that I have the opportunity to not only help a great cause like Team for Kids, but to have the opportunity and ability to run a marathon.

The route runs through Manhattan on 1st Avenue and it’s basically right next to our apartment (we’re so close we can hear the cheering from our couch!)
When they run through 1st Avenue, they had already ran through Staten Island, Brooklyn, and Queens. Well, here’s the map for reference:
As you can tell, it is a gnarly route.
Oh, and let me explain the title…
“Run For Your Life” is a quote that is by the treadmills at my gym. It is something that I stare at when I’m running and pushing through those tough moments. But truthfully, running reminds me how lucky and how blessed I am that I have a body that allows me to do the things I’m able to do.
I am so elated and so blessed that I am able to do this and help some precious children along the way.
Let the journey begin!
Best,
Jade
