I visited NY once , we did the usual touristy things .Didn’t particularly “have a nice day” , since unlike in the films one cannot “hail” a cab. Nor can one ask anyone question about how to get somewhere on the subway , or ask how much it cost to get to Staten island to get to the Statue of Liberty . Well one can , but they will be greeted with a glum look with no response and a tap on the counter until you put down enough cash to cover it . Also a stern look as if you have just escaped from a lunatic asylum. However I was disappointed I didn’t bump in to Kurt Russel as it looked exactly like in Escape from New York . We were lucky to escape and get back home.

Hi Angus! Oh totally - that sounds like a quintessential NYC trip! It is certainly different in the movies. I wished it felt as it looks when I watch the film When Harry Met Sally. I feel people are afraid of me because I’m from the south, so I try to be nice to everyone and always wear a smile. There are so many glum looks! I have a love/hate relationship with NYC!

Nice to meet someone, with a semblance of friendliness about them
