Sitting on my front porch reading this and feeling so honored!!! ❤️ I love and cherish our friendship and I can’t believe we have been friends for a decade now!
I echo every single thing you say here. Loving every moment of the unconnectedness yet continually striving to get over my fear of missing out!
A decade?! Oh my gosh that’s so wild to think about when you put it that way. Woah! I absolutely cherish our friendship! You have inspired me from the very first day I met you and continue to do so more every day. I am so blessed to have you in my life!
You're speaking to my SOUL on this one, Jade! I've long pushed against technology and the way everyone's lives need more and more of it. I've been off social media since the summer and it was the best thing I could have ever done. Would love to hear more about your conversation with your friend - what's the best thing about being off of it and the hardest thing? Thanks for articulating this all so well.
Hi Lindsay! I am so happy my writing spoke to you!! It is such a wonderful thing to do for ourselves—at least at one point or another. The best thing about being off of it is getting to cherish and develop the relationships you have in your *actual* life, those in your direct circle, and yourself more; rather than focusing or distracting yourself from your *online* self who is connected with thousands of people who either a) are people you used to be connected with but haven’t seen in 10+ years or b) people who you don’t know in the slightest. The worst thing? Combating that urge to feel connected, even if it’s actually not real connection. And further expanding on that, there are content creators whose content I actually miss. I had curated an algorithm that showed me women who were beautiful interior designers, DIYers, fashionistas, chefs, and NYC restaurant critics. That type of content was genuinely useful and inspiring to me, so I do miss that from time to time. Thank you for your thoughtful comment and reading my post!
So true! I have found that most of the creators I really liked have websites or YouTube channels or something. Especially the artistic/diy/design ones. So I can still see their work but only when I actually need it. Happy to have found you here!
